About me

My name is Sebastian Falk and I’m a musician, composer and producer from southern Sweden. I mainly play the hurdy-gurdy, compose my own music and participate in different projects. My musical background is pop, rock and metal, playing both drums and guitar over the years. Other than these, I have been involved in many different genres but found a particular calling in post-rock and experimental music.

While not originally a hurdy-gurdy player, I picked up the instrument in 2017 and started a journey that would become more important than I’d initially anticipated. Around the same time my fascination with the hurdy-gurdy started I also developed an interest in traditional Swedish folk music. Combining the two led me to the decision to change course and start studying folk music.

With a main focus in traditional Swedish folk music I completed the Contemporary Traditional Music bachelor’s programme at Gothenburg University in Sweden in 2024. With the hurdy-gurdy as my main instrument and the guidance of different teachers, such as Mia Marine (fiddle) and Johannes Geworkian Hellman (hurdy-gurdy) among others, I explored the musical place and possibilities of the instrument in both Swedish/Scandinavian folk music and in other traditions from other parts of the world.

Today I focus on combining my different musical influences and experiences, exploring a mix of folk music, post-rock/instrumental rock and ambient music, with both acoustic and electronic elements. I also play folk music and medieval music in different projects as well as offer private lessons and workshops for hurdy-gurdy players.
